To understand the slippery slope here, it is important to take note of the fact that all these forms of euthanasia are morally demeaning since they do not uphold the right to life. Legalizing PAS would, therefore, imply that the right to life is being violated. It also dehumanizes patients and further undermines the existing medical culture that should be focused on improving life. It would also contradict the law which limits personal freedom. One may also argue that PAS and euthanasia qualify on the basis that they are only used as a last resort. This last resort is usually determined based on certain legalities. For instance in the event of , mental illness, incurable pain, old age, less than 6 months life expectancy, and terminal illness. To disqualify this argument it would be important to consider a situation whereby a terminally ill person recovers when it is least expected. Though rare, incorrect diagnoses can occur. Patients that are misdiagnosed may then go on to be correctly diagnosed and treated leading to an unexpected recovery.
